Appointment made!

I made my first appointment with Dr. M!  It will be on Wed, November 28th at 10 am.  If all goes well, that could potentially put surgery around mid-January.

My story

My name is Jaime.  I am 29 years old.  I have been married to my husband Eric for 9 1/2 years, and we have two beautiful children–Christian, 6 and Hailey, 4 1/2.  Both of my kids have slight developmental delays (Christian is on the Autism spectrum, leaning towards Asperger’s Syndrome and Hailey has a moderate speech/language delay).  I work full time as a branch manager for a small loan company, and I am a full time student (mostly online).  I’m working on my associate’s degree right now, and then I’ll be pursuing my bachelor’s in Accounting.

This is my going to be a front row seat on my weight loss surgery journey.  This is the beginning of it all too, as I just met my future surgeon tonight, and I’ll be making my first appointment tomorrow.  This is a big decision and I know the path isn’t going to be easy.  I have been reading about WLS for about 2 years now, and after some crazy events healthwise this month, I’ve realized that I need to get the ball rolling.  I’ve decided on the LAP-BAND method, with a doctor here in St. Louis who comes highly recommended by the only doctor I’ve ever trusted (hereafter referred to as Dr. S.).

Dr. M, the surgeon, said that from first appointment to surgery is about 6 weeks, but I am probably looking at a little bit longer wait than that.  I don’t even know how long it will be before my first appointment, but I have to time things right with work, and I can’t take any time off in November or December.  Hopefully, at the latest, I’ll have surgery in March during Spring Break, but I hope it will be before then.  School isn’t too big of a concern since 3 of 4 classes next semester are online and I’ll probably be ok to miss one class of the one I attend in person, or I might feel up to going to class since the recovery isn’t that bad (according to Dr. M–I’m a bit of a big baby LOL).

I have a lot of support in this journey, which I am so thankful for.  I really thought everybody would scoff at me and tell me to suck it up and stop eating and exercise a little.  But they all know how much I’ve struggled and that other things just don’t work for me (thank you, PCOS).  My husband is my rock, and he loves me no matter how much I weigh, but I know he knows the health implications that come with my weight (no, I’m not posting it yet, I just can’t…maybe once I am ready for surgery I will).  Everybody else is being so positive and supportive too–my mom, my sister, Eric’s whole family.

I guess that’s enough for now.  Soon, I’ll post the story of the last few weeks, which is what has given me the kick in the ass I needed to get the ball rolling on this.  I’ll probably post some pictures of myself at some point–something to compare myself to in a few months.
